In a recent interview, Venus and Serena Williams opened up about their upbringing and how King Richard allowed fans to look at how they developed their passion for tennis closely. While the sisters acknowledged their effect on history and pop culture, Serena Williams doesn’t care too much to think about what legacy she will leave when she steps away from the spotlight for good.
“Let me live,” Williams joked to Harper’s Bazaar. “That’s something I don’t think about, nor do I want to. I don’t want to think about what I’m leaving. I just think about who I am every single day behind closed doors and behind cameras. And that’s what I focus on.”

The Williams sisters discussed some of their passions outside of tennis in the interview. “I’m so inspired by other change makers too,” said Venus Williams, citing “design” and “mentoring” as avenues she wished to pursue. The tennis superstar has worked hard to champion worthwhile causes and has long advocated for equal pay.

With such physical prowess, it makes sense they’d consider other athletic avenues. “Serena and I say we’re going to become bodybuilders after tennis. It might be extreme. It might not happen exactly like that, but you never know,” Venus Williams joked. But they also relish taking a step back.
