The annual Golden Raspberry Awards ceremony dubbed the ‘ugly cousin to the Oscars’ awarded the basketball star the prize for his leading role in Space Jam: A New Legacy, but the, ahem, accolades for the flick didn’t end there.
The movie also won worst screen couple and worst remake, rip-off or sequel, but was spared the worst picture award (this went to Netflix’s version of the Princess Diana Broadway musical Diana).
Critics and fans of the movie’s predecessor, the original, now iconic 1996 movie Space Jam certainly didn’t take to the sequel as they did when the 90s classic was released, including the film’s director, Joe Pytka.

The director, also known for directing popular music videos and commercials in the ’80s and ’90s including the I Am Tiger Woods, didn’t have a lot of love for the new reboot and told TMZ he had several issues with the film, mainly that it lacked the personal connection that Michael Jordan had in the film originally.
The original movie had its own fictionalised version of what happened between Jordan’s first basketball retirement in 1993 and comeback in 1995, which involved the Looney Tunes convincing him to enlist in their basketball match against a group of extremely tall aliens in order to protect their freedom.

He had kind words to say about James’ acting in the film but stated: ‘The truth is that LeBron ain’t Michael.’
Back to the Razzie Hall of Fame, Diana scooped five awards in total, including worst actress, worst supporting actress, worst director and worst screenplay.
