Albon dived from a long way back to make an overtake against the Canadian driver but could not get past him and ended up losing his front wing. The Red Bull junior driver also got 2 penalty points on his license for the incident.
The Thai driver was on the move as he tried to gain a position in the final laps of the race. Alex has been outperforming the car since the beginning of the season and, in his desperation, to move off the grid collided with the Aston Martin driver.

The race stewards noted the incident and put the blame on the Williams driver for the collision.
“The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 23 (Alexander Albon), the driver of car 18 (Lance Stroll), team representatives and examined video evidence in relation to the collision.
“Car 23 was attempting to overtake Car 18 on the inside by braking late. In executing the overtaking maneuver, Car 23 locked up and collided with Car 18 at the apex of the corner. We determined that Car 23 was wholly or predominantly to blame for the collision,” said the Stewards.

The grid drop and the penalty points will be a blow to the Williams driver. But hopefully, he can perform well in the qualifying session at the Australian Grand Prix to mitigate the effect of the penalty. He’s certainly impressing everyone on his return to the sport on how he is handling the difficult FW44.
