It was hard to blame the Memphis Grizzlies for using absolutely every opportunity to clap back at Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry, who told ESPN the Dubs’ game plan ahead of Game 5 in Memphis on Wednesday was to “Whoop that trick” — a pot-stirring reference to the Grizzlies’ rallying cry.
Especially after Memphis absolutely dismantled visiting Golden State in a 134-95 blowout that at one point looked like it could end up an all-time NBA playoff beatdown (thankfully the 2009 New Orleans Hornets’ historic 58-point loss ended up being safe by night’s end).
Dillon Brooks chided Curry post game.
The Memphis dance crew mocked him in game.
And the whole of social media, receipts in hand, verbally flayed the Dubs star, who made just four shots and finished with a team-worst plus-minus of -37.
Grizzlies stud Ja Morant, however, opted to make fun of Curry for something entirely unrelated: his 4-point-play celebration.
Curry has 17 career 4-point plays, and following a whole bunch of them he’s done the exact same thing:

Early in the fourth quarter, with the Dubs’ deficit margin hovering around 50 points, Morant — who is still out indefinitely with a bone bruise on his knee — could be seen on the sideline doing an exaggerated version of Curry’s signature celebration with a smug expression.

Morant is now the second person to taunt Curry during a game this postseason. The first — mustachioed Nuggets fan fake crying under the basket — pretty much sealed Denver’s fate in round 1 (Curry scored 53 points in the 6 quarters that followed the fake crying taunt on 50% shooting from the field). Will it seal the Grizzlies?
We’ll find out Friday when the Warriors host Game 6 at home in San Francisco at 7 p.m. with a second chance to end the Grizzlies’ postseason.
