In the traditional rule books, a screener can only remain stationary while setting a screen. However, these days we rarely see a screener keep to himself. Illegal screens have become a staple in the game. Moreover, the use of hands or legs to slow down anyone is also considered an illegal screen.

That doesn’t mean all the players are doing it. There are still elite screen setters such as Steven Adams who have mastered screen setting. On the flip side, there was a huge argument about the Golden State Warriors setting illegal screens to get their shooters open. Even their former center, Andrew Bogut, spoke about how much the referees let him get away with. However, the NBA has done little about it.
