Mick Schumacher seat in Haas: Haas boss, Steiner comments on the possibility of…
MICK SCHUMACHER is out of contract with Haas at the end of the 2022 season, and his future remains up in the air following a mixed run of form.
Formula 1 starlet Mick Schumacher could well have three rivals for his Haas seat in 2023, including Australian star Daniel Ricciardo. Schumacher made his first big break onto the F1 scene after securing a seat with Haas in 2021.
The German youngster has since spent two seasons racing for the American team, but with his contract coming to an end at the end of the 2022 campaign he could well be replaced for 2023. One man who could well be the man to take his spot, is eight-time Grand Prix winner Ricciardo, whose F1 future remains up in the air.
According to ESPN, Haas boss Guenther Steiner called the Australian driver ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix about a potential move. Riccardo is not the only man to be linked to Schumacher’s seat though, with Antonio Giovinazzi heavily tipped.
The Ferrari reserve driver – who spent three years with Alfa Romeo – will get a chance to get behind the wheel of a Haas car this year when he replaces Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen respectively in the opening practice session of the Italian and US Grand Prix. This will give the Alfa Romeo man a taste of the new generation of Formula 1 cars ahead of a potential move next year.

Haas boss Steiner discussed Giovinazzi’s practice role, commenting: “We’re happy to welcome Antonio Giovinazzi back to the team for the two FP1 outings. Ferrari were keen to give Antonio some seat time in a current-spec Formula One car on a race weekend and we were naturally happy to assist.
“We enjoyed a similar situation back in 2017 with Antonio and Ferrari. The clear difference between then and now is the experience he’ll have gained competing for the previous three seasons in Formula One and the feedback he’ll be able to give us in Italy and America.”
Giovinazzi himself seemed excited to get behind the wheel, telling the official F1 website: “It’ll be an opportunity to get confident with the new generation cars – it’s the best way to be ready if I were called as reserve driver. Driving on challenging and exciting tracks as Monza and COTA makes it even more thrilling. Thanks to Haas F1 Team and Scuderia Ferrari – I’m looking forward to giving my contribution to the team that counted on me already in 2017.”
