While acknowledging that what Kyrie Irving did was wrong, LeBron James nevertheless defended the Nets point guard on Thursday, arguing that the punishment KI is currently receiving is excessive.
James, who spent multiple seasons in Cleveland alongside Irving, used Twitter to let hisfollowers know what he thought about the situation. James wrote several tweets while he was still recovering from a lower-body injury.
“I told you guys that I don’t believe in sharing hurtful information,” James said. “And I’ll continue to be that way, but Kyrie apologized, and he should be able to play. That’s what I think. It’s that simple.”

The Nets on Thursday suspended Irving after he repeatedly failed to accept responsibility for tweeting a link to the anti-Semitic movie “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America!”

The team declared the suspension indefinite and stated that for Irving to be allowed to return to the court, he would need to comply with “a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct.”

Shams Charania said that among of the requirements included attending meetings with Jewish leaders and undergoing antisemitism and sensitivity training.
James expresses his overwhelming feeling, saying, “Help him learn- but he should be playing. What he’s asked to do to get back on the floor I think is excessive IMO. He’s not the person that’s being portrayed of him.”

For his part, Irving did eventually apologise, and, according to Charania, he and NBA commissioner Adam Silver had a “constructive” meeting this week to discuss the situation.
