Nico Hulkenberg has been selected as Mick Schumacher’s replacement after the German lost his Formula 1 place at Haas.
Schumacher has endured a frustrating F1 campaign which currently sees him residing in 13th position. It has certainly been a very disappointing campaign for the 23-year-old who has struggled throughout the season.
And their patience appears to have run dry as Haas have decided a change is certainly needed. And team boss Guenther Steiner wished the son of legendary race Michael Schumacher well for the future shortly after the decision was made.
“I would like to thank Mick Schumacher for his contribution to the team over the past couple of years,” the Haas chief said, confirming the decision. “Mick’s pedigree in the junior categories was well known and he has continued to grow and develop as a driver in his time with Haas F1 Team – culminating in his first Formula 1 points-scoring successes earlier this season.
“While choosing to go in separate directions for the future the entire team wishes Mick well for the next steps in his career path and beyond.” Schumacher scored his first points at the British Grand Prix.

His eighth placed finish was enough to get his first ever Championship points for the only American team in F1. However, this was not enough to save him from being jettisoned by Haas.

Schumacher has also released a statement of his own in wake of his time at Haas being cut short. “This is going to be my last race with Haas F1 team,” he said on Instagram.
“I don’t want to hide the fact that I am very disappointed about the decision not to renew our contract. Nevertheless, I would like to thank both Haas F1 and Ferrari for given me this opportunity.
“Those years together have helped me to mature both technically and personally. And, especially when things got difficult. I realised how much I love this sport.
“It was at time bumpy, but I steadily improved, learned a lot and now know for sure that I deserve a place in Formula 1. The subject is anything bu closed for me. Setbacks only make you stronger. My fire burns for Formula 1 and I will fight hard to return to the starting grid. PTW. (Play to win).”

Hulkenberg will make his return to the F1 grid
He will be replaced by a returning Hulkenberg, who has not appeared in F1 since 2019. “I’m very happy to move into a full-time race seat with Haas F1 Team in 2023,” Hulkenberg recently said after his selection.
“I feel like I never really left Formula 1. We have work ahead of us to be able to compete with all the other teams in the midfield. I cannot wait to join that battle again.”
