The group stage of the Nitto ATP Finals is drawing to a close and practice for two groups is drawing to a close. On the fifth day, the green group of singles and the red group of doubles will play the last match of this first round in Turin, with some verdicts already decided: among them, the classification of Casper Ruud and the elimination of Rafael Nadal.
In the doubles, however, the stage still seems completely open. The first challenge is between the doubles players. At 11:30 am, the Glasspool-Heliovaara couple will face Granollers-Zeballos: the former prevailed in the first round, while the latter were defeated in the first match.
A first verdict on the doubles tournament could already come out of this confrontation. The first singles match, which will be played not before 2:00 p.m., on the other hand, does not say anything about the classification: Ruud against Nadal will only have to say who will be the leader of the green group, since the Norwegian’s defeat could give it all up for lost.
For the world number four there is also the chance to “avenge” the lost final at the French Open. The other piece that completes the doubles puzzle is the one that will pit the Arévalo-Rojer couple against the second-seeded tournament, Ram-Salisbury.

Not before 18:30, the seconds will seek to remain undefeated in the tournament that takes place in Turin; the former, on the other hand, will seek victory to continue aspiring to qualify for the semifinals.
Rafael Nadal sunk to a second consecutive defeat at the 2022 ATP Finals, falling to Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-6, 4-6 in straight sets.
“Probably you only heard one part of the answer. Of course, finish the season as World No. 1, it’s a great achievement. Would be an amazing achievement at this stage of my career,” Nadal said. “But on the other hand, I say that I will never be following that goal again.
That happens, because the situation brings me to that position, fantastic. But my body, my age, my personal situation don’t allow me to follow that goal any more, no? Winning two slams was not enough,” he said. “Of course, was not enough because I was not able to play.

I don’t know how many tournaments I played, 10, 11, maybe 12. Finished maybe nine, 10, in good conditions.” The 22-time Grand Slam champion went on to congratulate Alcaraz on his inevitable year-end World No. 1 finish after that.
