Lewis Hamilton has given his thoughts on Mick Schumacher joining Mercedes as a reserve driver.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Schumacher had joined Merc as a reserve driver, with him taking on sim duties and also marketing obligations for the Silver Arrows.
He will attend each race in the 2023 season as part of his role, too, meaning he’ll be still firmly among the F1 paddock, although not in a race seat, and if for whatever reason Lewis Hamilton or George Russell need to miss an event, he will be on hand to step in and take the reins.
It’s a good opportunity for Schumacher to keep learning and experience being a part of one of the top teams, then, and he’ll also be looking forward to working alongside one of the all-time greats in Lewis Hamilton.
Schumacher, of course, is the son of seven-time world champion Michael and the only driver to have matched that championship tally is Hamilton, with his last title coming back in 2020.

The German will be looking to see what he can learn from the British driver, then, whilst Hamilton is also pleased to welcome Mick into the fold at Merc, saying that the former Haas driver has great talent.
Speaking in an interview with German outlet Sport Bild, Lewis had this to say:
“Mick is a great talent and an asset for Mercedes. He is a German driver. His father Michael and Mercedes were already closely connected.”
Hamilton also revealed that he and Mick might not work massively closely over the course of much of the season, such is the change in the role of a sim driver but, even so, Schumacher will look to learn from the former McLaren man as much as he can.

Mick Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton
Hamilton, Schumacher and Russell will all be working hard in 2023 to try and help get Mercedes right back up at the front of the field, meanwhile, after what was a tough 2022.
With their resource and talent in the team, you wouldn’t bet against them achieving that either.
