Fans go haywire over Luka Doncic’s savage response to…
This is a solid deflecton from Doncic, but it in terms of the actual rankings in the West, don’t be surprised to see the Mavs shoot up a spot or two in the standings after the deadline.
The Dallas Mavericks have been looking to get star point guard Luka Doncic additional help all season long, and they finally managed to do just that at the trade deadline by making a shocking trade with the Brooklyn Nets for Kyrie Irving. With Doncic and Irving teaming up in Dallas’ backcourt, it looks like the sky’s the limit for a Mavs team already winning at a decent rate with just Doncic. With Irving on board now, it looks like they could be set to do some real damage.
The Mavericks seem poised to go on a run up the standings in the Western Conference, as their 31-26 record currently sees them sitting in fourth place right now. But the Mavs weren’t the only team to make upgrades ahead of the trade deadline. The Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies both shored up their rotation with lower-level moves, while the Phoenix Suns went out and pulled off an even bigger trade for Irving’s former teammate in, Kevin Durant.

The West didn’t really have a team that stood out before the trade deadline, but now it looks like several top-tier teams have title hopes right now. When asked to rank the Mavericks among their competition in the West after the deadline, Doncic provided a savage answer in which he says he simply doesn’t care about rankings because he trusts his team to win every time they take the court.
“Ask the people that do the rankings. I never do these rankings and that stuff so that’s for the other people. I believe in my team. That’s it.” – Luka Doncic, Fanatics View.
It’s clear that the West’s landscape has completely changed due to the trade deadline. Until this point, the Eastern Conference was viewed as the league’s powerhouse, with the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks comfortably leading the pack. But now it looks like four teams (the Mavericks, Suns, Nuggets, and Grizzlies) are running the West right now.
In that group, where do the Mavericks rank? It’s hard to tell right now, partly because we haven’t seen Doncic play alongside Irving yet, or Durant suit up for the Suns either. And it’s also worth noting that the Nuggets and Grizzlies have really deep teams, which will help them greatly come playoff time.

Still, it’s tough to ignore the star power of the Mavs, and while they are currently in fourth place, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them move up a spot or two in the standings before the season ends. There’s a chance that the Irving experiment flames out, but he and Doncic look like the best backcourt duo in the league. And suppose they can play solid basketball together throughout the rest of the season. In that case, Dallas will immediately become one of the most challenging teams to beat in the Western Conference and the entire NBA.
