Michael Jordan’s favorite colleague throws NBA fans in awe with his reasons for choosing Lebron James over Micheal Jordan
During a new conversation with former longtime Los Angeles Lakers antagonist Kevin Garnett, Charles Oakley offered up a surprising endorsement when asked which player between his old Chicago Bulls teammate and good pal Michael Jordan or active Los Angeles Lakers great LeBron James he would prefer to play alongside.
Oakley, famously, is one of MJ’s best friends. When Bulls team president Jerry Krause traded the solid power forward to the New York Knicks in exchange for Bill Cartwright, Jordan was furious that his closest comrade was gone. In the end, of course, it yielded three straight titles with the 7’1″ big as the club’s starting center.

“They asked me, ‘Who would you rather play with, LeBron or Mike?’” Oakley began. “I said, ‘LeBron, but Mike my best friend.’ Mike ain’t passing me the ball. He don’t care if I get a shot today or tomorrow. But, you know, he’s got to be Mike.”
The eternal Greatest Of All Time debate between the two rages on. It’s strange to see Oak vote in favor of the 19-time Lakers All-Star. While Jordan didn’t last as long, his sparkling postseason record (he went 6-0 in the NBA Finals, winning six titles in eight years) is stronger than James’ (4-6 in his NBA Finals appearances).
Another former Los Angeles Lakers legend, center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and one of the NBA’s first superstars, Boston Celtics big man Bill Russell, and generally considered the other candidates for all-time league GOAT bragging rights.
